History

YIPPS was conceived and named by Natasha (Goguts) Manbeck, a transportation planner in Washington DC who wanted to organize a group of like-minded young planners for happy hours, informational tours, and other networking opportunities.  The group was started in March of 2007 with a handful of members, and has since grown to over 500 professional planners from throughout the DC region.  In May 2010, YIPPS Rva was formed by planners in Richmond Virginia.

Organizers of YIPPS generally serve a 2 year term, at which point the tasks of planning happy hours and events and moderating the Google group (the main form of communication) is transitioned to a new set of individuals, in order to keep the network fresh.
